2021 WA
Joel Gott Washington Red Blend
Tasting Notes
Our 2021 Washington, Columbia Valley Red Wine blend has aromas of cherry cola, blackberry blossom and clove with notes of nutmeg. On the palate, dark fruit flavors of blackberry and black cherry with subtle acidity are followed by smooth, elongated tannins and concentrated fruit flavors on the mid-palate with a soft, round mouthfeel on the long, delicate finish.

Vineyard Notes
To make a well-balanced red wine, we sourced fruit from three different appellations within the Columbia Valley. Vineyards in the Wahluke Slope and the Yakima Valley AVAs experience desert-like conditions in the spring and summer with warm days followed by cool nights resulting in fruit with smaller, thicker skins adding complexity and structure to the wine. Fruit from the Walla Walla Valley AVA provides structure, opulence, and depth to the blend. Sourcing from these varied appellations across Washington helps to create an elegant and well-balanced wine.
Harvest Notes
Across the Columbia Valley, the 2021 growing season experienced a mild spring followed by a summer heatwave. Cooler autumn temperatures allowed for extended hang time and even ripening of the fruit resulting in optimal flavor development. These conditions produced smaller, more concentrated clusters resulting in great flavor and acidity making for a complex and well-balanced wine.
Winemaking Notes
After fermentation, the wine was aged in 75% new American oak and 25% 2-yearold American oak to complement the flavors and tannins of the wine and soften the mid-palate.
