Our first release of our Joel Gott California Syrah arrives in our portfolio as a result of a superb 2005 vintage. Cooler temperatures and a long ripening season meant the grapes were able to hang in the vineyard longer giving them more time to develop amazing flavor. Our Syrah, Mourvedre, and Petite Sirah vineyards are in an area of California near the Sacramento River Delta where the diurnal temperature fluctuation gives us really cool nights and moderate day time temperatures. The 2005 vintage gave us even cooler day time temperatures than normal resulting in grapes that are highly concentrated in flavor and completely mature at harvest due to longer time on the vine.

In a glass our Syrah shows ruby red and purple color, aromas of violets, sweet spices, blueberry and cassis. In the mouth the tannins are sweet, with a lush juicy mid-palette and flavors of raspberry, plum and a minerality that shows it’s terrior. This wine is a wonderful balance of acid and tannin, which create a sweet, upfront friendly drinking wine. Enjoy this youthful, vibrant, food friendly wine now or wait 6 months and see how the luscious tannins develop!
